Job Description:
A Publicly Listed American Corporation is seeking an experienced attorney for its Sr. Corporate Counsel – IP position, which will support all aspects of managing, improving and growing A Publicly Listed American Corporation's worldwide patent portfolio. The successful candidate will be responsible for formulating and actively driving process improvements and strategies for A Publicly Listed American Corporation's worldwide patent portfolio. In this role, you will coordinate extensively with in-house and outside paralegals and attorneys, internal business and functional partners, and A Publicly Listed American Corporation engineers to advance A Publicly Listed American Corporation's patent portfolio goals. This position requires business acumen, exceptional verbal and written communication skills, and sound business judgment.

Requirements/Qualifications:
Key Responsibilities:
The Sr. Corporate Counsel - IP position reports to A Publicly Listed American Corporation's Director & Assistant General Counsel – IP & Litigation. In this position, the successful candidate will:
  • Coordinate with and direct efforts of outside counsel regarding prosecution of A Publicly Listed American Corporation's worldwide patent applications, including review of applications and responses to office actions;
  • Develop and recommend improvements to A Publicly Listed American Corporation's existing patent prosecution process;
  • Harvest invention submissions from business units and provide IP training;
  • Evaluate invention submissions to determine whether they merit a patent application;
  • Develop strategic initiatives to target high value innovations relevant to A Publicly Listed American Corporation's business units and corporate strategy;
  • Maintain and update A Publicly Listed American Corporation's Patent Prosecution Guidelines, and coordinate with outside counsel on same;
  • Manage and improve outside counsel patent prosecution fees without reducing quality of patents;
  • Analyze patent portfolio, identify valuable patent assets, prepare evidence of use, and otherwise support patent monetization efforts;
  • Provide support to patent litigation function when necessary; and
  • Assist in other substantive legal areas and work with other attorneys and staff as needed.

Job Requirements:
The successful candidate will:
  • Possess in-depth knowledge of US and worldwide patent and intellectual property laws;
  • Be in good standing and licensed to practice law in a state in the U.S. and at the USPTO;
  • Possess a J.D. from ABA Accredited Law School with excellent academic credentials;
  • Have a B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering or other relevant science degree with excellent academic credentials;
  • Have at least 10 years of experience in patent prosecution (combination of in-house and firm experience preferred);
  • Experience with relevant technologies to A Publicly Listed American Corporation (semiconductor experience preferred); and
  • Work well in a collaborative team environment.

Computer Skills:
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel;
  • Experience with patent analysis and database software; and
  • Experience with legal invoice software.
