We are seeking a Lead Counsel to work on A Social Networking Service Company's Central Security Legal Team, with a global remit to support Security, Safety, and Integrity equities worldwide.

The ideal candidate would bring international criminal justice experience, with a firm grasp of the regulatory landscape in the United States, Europe, and around the world, as it impacts internet service and social media providers. They should be able to work effectively both independently as well as with large, multi-stakeholder, cross-functional teams. Key qualities include excellent legal judgment and executing quickly and under tight time constraints, strategic thinking, solid communications skills and being proactive, flexible, collaborative, and diligent.

Lead Counsel, Security Legal Responsibilities
  • Provide advice and support the processing of legal requests for user data, and manage the litigation of matters implicating user data disclosure in criminal investigations and civil matters
  • Identify and advise business and product partners on legal obligations globally relating to data disclosure and platform safety and integrity, including child safety and other serious crimes
  • Support and advise cross-functional teams in implementing, testing, and evaluating safety and integrity compliance controls
  • Work closely and creatively with cross-functional teams, including Legal, Policy, Communications, Engineering, and Business Operations in reviewing and addressing governmental regulations, agency guidelines, policies, including government requests for user data
  • Manage effective relationships with key government agencies, regulators, and law enforcement agencies, in close collaboration with internal cross-functional teams

Minimum Qualifications:
  • JD degree (or foreign equivalent) and membership in at least one US state bar
  • Substantial experience with U.S. law, including the Stored Communications Act, Wiretap Act, Pen Register/Trap and Trace Statute, as well as understanding of major EU laws regarding data disclosure and content moderation, including familiarity with the European General Data Protection Regulation, as well cross-border instruments such as the Council of Europe Cybercrime (Budapest) Convention
  • 5+ years of legal experience, including government, in-house and/or law firm experience advising technology companies
  • Direct experience working with U.S. and international law enforcement authorities
  • Experience analyzing and reviewing emerging regulations relating to technology companies, including content moderation and safety

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 8+ years of legal experience, including government, in-house and/or law firm experience advising technology companies
  • Experience providing guidance to internal stakeholders in responding to law enforcement, civil, or third party user data requests
  • Experience managing and leading cross-functional efforts, and prioritizing competing project timelines
