Description:
The Role:An American Multinational Corporation is seeking a strategic and experienced Senior Counsel – Cybersecurity to provide legal support for GM's global cybersecurity operations, spanning information security, product cybersecurity, and manufacturing engineering. This role is critical to ensuring GM's compliance with global cybersecurity regulations, managing legal risk related to cyber threats, and embedding security and trust into the company's products and services.
The successful candidate will serve as a proactive legal partner to GM's Cybersecurity and Information Technology organizations, leading an agile, enterprise-focused legal team. The role involves close collaboration with GM's Privacy and Product legal teams, as well as other subject matter experts, business units, and key internal stakeholders.
What You'll Do:
- Advise cybersecurity and engineering teams on legal issues related to connected vehicle technologies, including privacy-by-design and security-by-design principles.
- Monitor and interpret global cybersecurity laws, standards, and regulatory developments; support compliance initiatives and audits.
- Provide legal counsel on cybersecurity architecture, threat detection, and secure development practices.
- Support GM's public policy team by assessing the impact of proposed cybersecurity and privacy regulations on GM's products and services.
- Lead legal support for global incident response and vulnerability management, including breach notification obligations and regulatory reporting.
- Draft and review cybersecurity and IT-related policies, standards, and procedures; contribute to governance frameworks and training programs.
- Partner with IT teams to address legal issues in infrastructure, identity and access management, cloud services, and enterprise software.
- Support technology and strategic transactions, with a focus on cybersecurity, data protection provisions, and third-party security requirements.
- Engage with external regulators, industry groups, and legal counterparts to stay ahead of emerging cybersecurity trends and risks.
Additional Job Description:
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- J.D. from an accredited law school; licensed to practice in the U.S.
- 8+ years of legal experience, with significant exposure to cybersecurity, technology law, or regulatory compliance.
- Strong understanding of cybersecurity frameworks, incident response protocols, and IT operations.
- Experience advising on global regulatory regimes and managing cross-border legal issues.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.
- Experience advising on legal issues related to artificial intelligence (AI)
- Familiarity with connected devices and IoT products.
- Experience with complex supply chain security and/or incident management.
- Certifications such as CIPP/US or CISSP.
- Experience in automotive, mobility, or regulated industries.
