Job Description:
  • Lead strategic legal initiatives by leveraging deep expertise in GM's business operations, product portfolio, long-term innovation roadmap, and the complex regulatory environments across global markets.
  • Serve as principal legal advisor to senior technical and business leadership on the development, deployment, and lifecycle management of advanced connected vehicle technologies and mobile platforms, ensuring legal alignment with customer experience excellence and enterprise risk mitigation.
  • Drive cross-functional legal strategy by working with internal stakeholders such as public policy and communications to proactively identifying emerging legal risks and opportunities in consumer protection, data privacy, marketing practices, and evolving regulatory frameworks, while influencing product and policy decisions.
  • Oversee and refine high-impact legal documentation, including service terms, product disclosures, license agreements, and customer-facing communications, ensuring consistency with global standards and business objectives.
  • Shape internal governance frameworks for data usage, cybersecurity, and digital ethics, collaborating with compliance, IT, and policy teams to uphold best-in-class information stewardship.
  • Anticipate and interpret legal trends affecting connected technologies and software services, delivering actionable insights and strategic guidance to executive stakeholders and product teams.
  • Lead coordination with global legal teams, harmonizing legal approaches across jurisdictions and driving alignment on digital product strategies and regulatory responses.
  • Mentor and empower legal colleagues, fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture through project leadership, knowledge sharing, and professional development initiatives.

Basic Requirements:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • Active membership in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar
  • Minimum of 8+ years of progressive legal experience, including substantial in-house or law firm counseling in the software, technology, or automotive sectors
  • Extensive experience advising on complex digital products, including connected vehicle platforms, mobile applications, and software-as-a-service (SaaS) offerings
  • Proven track record of strategic product counseling, guiding cross-functional teams through legal risk assessments, regulatory navigation, and business-aligned decision-making
  • Advanced knowledge of consumer protection laws, global data privacy regimes (e.g., GDPR, CCPA), intellectual property, and commercial transactions, with the ability to synthesize legal requirements into actionable business guidance
  • Exceptional communication and influence skills, capable of translating legal complexity into clear, compelling narratives for technical and executive audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver pragmatic, forward-looking legal advice in fast-paced, innovation-driven environments, balancing legal risk with business opportunity
  • Strong leadership presence and collaboration skills, with the ability to build trust, drive alignment, and influence stakeholders across a matrixed global organization
  • Experience managing or mentoring legal professionals, contributing to team development, culture, and operational excellence
