The Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced management-side Labor Counsel to join our in-house legal team. As a mid-level to senior lawyer, the ideal candidate will have 7+ years of experience in labor law, with a strong focus on representing management in labor-related matters. The successful candidate will play a vital role in providing strategic legal advice and guidance to our organization on a wide range of labor and employment issues.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide legal counsel and representation to the organization in labor-related matters, including collective bargaining, contract negotiations, grievance procedures, and labor arbitration
  • Develop and implement effective labor relations strategies, in collaboration with senior management, to ensure compliance with relevant labor laws and regulations
  • Advise and assist in the development and implementation of labor and employment policies, procedures, and best practices
  • Conduct legal research and analysis to assess and mitigate potential legal risks related to labor matters
  • Prepare and review various legal documents, including employment contracts, collective bargaining agreements, settlement agreements, and other labor-related agreements
  • Represent the organization in labor-related litigation, including unfair labor practice charges, discrimination claims, and other employment-related disputes
  • Stay up to date with changes in labor laws, regulations, and legal precedents to ensure compliance and inform management of potential impacts on the organization
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, such as HR, operations, and executive management, to provide legal advice and support on labor-related issues
  • Build and maintain relationships with external legal counsel, labor unions, and other relevant stakeholders
  • Assist in training and educating management and HR teams on labor law compliance and best practices
  • Handle other labor-related legal matters and projects as assigned

Qualifications:
Experience & Skills Required
  • Minimum of 7+ years of experience practicing labor law, with a focus on management-side representation
  • In-depth knowledge of labor laws, regulations, and legal precedents, including the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA), Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), and other relevant federal, state, and local laws
  • Strong understanding of collective bargaining, labor arbitration, and grievance procedures
  • Skilled in developing and implementing effective labor relations strategies that align with the organization's goals and objectives, which includes assessing the organization's labor relations landscape, identifying potential risks, and providing proactive advice to mitigate those risks
  • A comprehensive understanding of labor laws, regulations, and legal precedents, including the NLRA, FLSA, and other relevant federal, state, and local labor laws to provide guidance and ensure compliance with these laws in all labor-related activities
  • Demonstrated experience in providing legal counsel and representation to management in labor-related matters
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex legal issues and provide practical solutions
  • Strong negotiation and advocacy skills, with the ability to effectively represent the organization's interests in labor-related disputes and negotiations
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex legal concepts to a non-legal audience
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in an in-house legal department or corporate environment
  • Experience managing and overseeing outside counsel in labor-related matters
  • Knowledge of labor relations issues in international jurisdictions, in particular Canada
  • Willingness to engage on employment law issues, as needed.

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree is required
  • Juris Doctor from accredited law school is required
  • Good standing with at least one state bar
