Current Need A Medical Supplies, Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare Solutions Company well-regarded General Counsel Organization is seeking an experienced transactional and healthcare lawyer to support McKesson's Strategic, Community and Specialized Pharmacy (SCS) segment of McKesson's Pharmaceutical Solutions and Services business unit. McKesson's SCS segment helps provide drug distribution and related services to independent, small and medium retail pharmacies and chains, alternate site facilities and specialty/emerging pharmacy channels through McKesson Corporation (US Pharma), the non-acute segment of McKesson Plasma and Biologics LLC, and Masters Drug Company, Inc., McKesson's secondary distributor. This position requires a keen understanding of the ever-changing business, legal, and healthcare regulatory environment relevant to McKesson's distribution business. The successful candidate will be expected to serve as a role model of professionalism and demonstrate strong leadership traits as part of a mutually supportive, highly engaged team with an exceptional reputation for performance and positive culture.

Position Description Primary responsibilities:
  • Provide day-to-day legal support for the SCS customer segment including legal support for customer and group purchasing organization contracting and dispute resolution;
  • Provide legal support for Masters Drug Company, Inc., including customer and vendor contracting and regulatory advice;
  • Manage contract specialist support for the team; • Support requests for proposals and marketing initiatives;
  • Provide health care regulatory advice and education on issues related to supply agreements and other arrangements between distributors and customers, buying groups, drug manufacturers, and other healthcare service companies; •
  • Serve as a legal advisor to business unit leadership on a wide array of topics relating to segment needs, including legal risk mitigation, customer management, strategic initiatives and compliance programs;
  • Coordinate with other attorneys and compliance partners in the McKesson General Counsel Organization on privacy, litigation, labor and employment, IP, regulatory compliance, and other matters arising at SCS; and
  • Maintain frequent interactions with other internal stakeholders across functional groups

Critical Skills:
  • Law firm experience, combined with in-house experience with healthcare organizations, preferred
  • Excellent legal analysis and risk assessment skills, and ability to communicate complicated legal considerations to both business and other legal stakeholders
  • Knowledge of (i) key healthcare statutes and regulations, including pharmacy law and regulations (including licensing requirements), federal Food Drug and Cosmetic Act (including Drug Supply Chain Security Act), Controlled Substances Act, federal and state anti-kickback and illegal remuneration laws, Stark law, HIPAA, and state privacy laws; (2) complex contracting in a healthcare context, and (3) structure, implementation and operation of corporate compliance programs in the healthcare setting
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to provide sound, clear legal advice to all levels within the company, including senior business executives in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work closely with, facilitate interactions within, and influence large cross-functional teams (including attorneys from other areas of the General Counsel Organization, regulatory and compliance professionals, and business operations managers). • Must be a team player who can develop strong working relationships and work collaboratively with internal clients and other members of the legal team. Ability to lead by example including a willingness to “roll up your sleeves” and undertake day-today legal work. • • Proven management experience, and a strong desire to develop and manage a team of high-functioning legal professionals Minimum Requirements 7+ years of healthcare regulatory and corporate law experience Education Juris Doctor Degree with excellent academic credentials. Member of a jurisdiction is required.
