Position Overview:
Under the supervision of Corporate Counsel, the Junior Corporate Counsel will be responsible for a full range of legal issues including researching legal issues, drafting and reviewing business contracts, and other general compliance and legal matters.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Review, draft, and negotiate commercial lease agreements, subleases, assignments amendments, and renewals while meeting critical timelines.
  • Review and draft legal memorandum concerning state commercial landlord-tenant law.
  • Assist the Associate and Senior Corporate Counsel manage the current lease portfolio, including assistance in dispute resolution.
  • Counsel branch offices on rights and obligations in lease agreements and handle disputes with landlords.
  • Demonstrate the ability to update contract templates, terms and conditions as necessary to drive efficiency on behalf of the organization.
  • Prepare, draft, negotiate and finalize routine contracts, including confidentiality agreements, third party vendor agreements, and other agreements.
  • Collaborate with outside counsel to provide timely responses to discovery requests and/or other requests for information or action.
  • Provide support activities, including drafting and conducting legal research in all areas of federal and state law impacting residential mortgage lending and servicing.
  • Assist with various committee/group meetings facilitated by the Legal Department.

Qualifications and Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university.
  • Degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admitted to practice in the State of Ohio.
  • 1-3 years' experience practicing law with prior litigation experience.
  • Prior experience working with a real estate, mortgage, or commercial leases.
  • Familiarity with federal and state regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of the instructions given and standard accepted practices.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, memorandums, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively gather and present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
