We are looking for an experienced coverage professional to serve as one of Risk Solutions' “point people” for coverage determinations, coverage and premium-audit litigation, and policy-drafting projects. The position will focus on losses in a nationwide book of surplus lines business, including primary and excess claims under commercial general liability (CGL) and other policies. This position will report to Risk Solutions' Assistant Vice President of Claims – Coverage. Both Cincinnati, Ohio office setting and remote (work-from-home) candidates will be considered. All interviews will be conducted in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Job title and grade may be different from this posting depending on the successful applicant's level of experience.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Investigates and maintains claims:
    • Reviews and evaluates coverage and/or liability.
    • Assigns cases to outside counsel and evaluates their performance.
  • Develops, prepares, and implements Claims Litigation strategy, including affecting settlements/reserves within prescribed limits.
  • Works toward the resolution of claims files and attends arbitrations, mediations or trials as necessary, but is not attorney of record.
  • Provides legal advice and counsel to Claims personnel.
  • Ensures compliance of claims handling pursuant to all state, legal, statutory, and regulatory bodies.
  • May provide oversight and supervision to outside counsel on claims-related litigation.
  • May provide guidance and assistance to lower level positions.
  • May have responsibility for performance and coaching of staff and may have a participatory role in decisions regarding talent selection, development, and performance management for direct reports.
  • Consults with Product Management in coverage form drafting.
  • This position does not counsel the company.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:
Education: LLM (Master of Law) or JD (Juris Doctorate) and current attorney license required.
