As Counsel, Labor & Employment at A Food & Beverage Manufacturing Company, you will support and collaborate with the business as a subject matter expert providing strategic advice and counsel regarding labor and employment law issues. You will play a critical role in managing external disputes, charges and arbitration as well as managing outside counsel. Identifying and proactively addressing labor and employment related risks, we will look to you to as a creative problem-solver who provides excellent service to stakeholders. The role can be based out of Chicago, IL or Battle Creek, MI and will work in a flexible, hybrid model with weekly in-office days. This position will have some occasion travel estimate at 10%-15% of the time but may vary depending on business needs.

A Taste of What You'll Be Doing
  • Labor Law - Advising on matters under the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA), you will support the Labor Relations team with legal matters involving collective bargaining, day-to-day labor relations and contract administration, along with managing any related disputes and arbitrated matters.
  • Employment Law - Keeping informed of new or pending case law, legislation and regulations will be critical in this position. Responsibilities will include the areas of wage and hour (FLSA), leave management (FMLA), workplace accommodations (ADA, Title VII), compensation (pay transparency laws, Title VII), discrimination, retaliation, and other related areas.
  • Disputes – Overseeing the process of managing pre-litigation disputes, agency charge responses, labor arbitration and supporting the Dispute Resolution team in managing related litigation, you will manage key internal and external stakeholder relationships.
  • Benefits, I-9, and Immigration Law – You will be responsible for the delivery of legal advice and counsel involving U.S. benefit plans (ERISA) as well as inbound U.S. immigration, Form I-9, and related compliance. This includes managing outside counsel relationships with experts in these areas.
  • People Leadership – You will train and advise a Legal Specialist. This includes championing, modeling, and enforcing high standards for workplace conduct. Managing team member workload and performance to ensure the delivery of excellent service to key stakeholders.
