The Opportunity:
- We are seeking an attorney to serve as Corporate Counsel and support the Company's growing legal function. This role will focus on commercial real estate legal matters across our national medical office portfolio, which currently exceeds nine million square feet, and will provide legal support to the Company's acquisitions, development, and leasing activities.
- The Corporate Counsel will report to the head of the legal department and work closely with senior legal leadership, internal teams, and outside counsel. This role requires a strong understanding of how contractual and transactional decisions impact asset performance, risk management, and stakeholder priorities, along with the ability to provide practical, business oriented legal guidance.
How you'll contribute
- Lead the drafting, review, and negotiation of commercial leases, partnering closely with Asset Management and collaborating with outside leasing counsel as appropriate.
- Manage and execute legal instruments supporting the property management platform, including service agreements, access and use licenses, lease amendments, and tenant improvement construction agreements.
- Ensure compliance with all legal obligations applicable to the Company and its managed assets, including title matters, ground leases, tenant agreements, and vendor contracts.
- Support the Company's acquisitions and development platforms by providing legal analysis and transactional support as needed.
- Assist with transaction closings related to financings, acquisitions, dispositions, and securities offerings in coordination with internal stakeholders and external advisors.
- Create, maintain, and ensure compliance for legal entities, including drafting and adapting organizational documents using established templates.
- Support broader corporate and operational legal priorities and interface with state and federal agencies and regulators as necessary.
What you bring:
- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
- Active (or imminent) membership in the Virginia State Bar
- Minimum of two years of real estate transactional experience at a law firm
- Demonstrated experience with commercial real estate leasing and acquisitions
- Medical office or healthcare real estate experience preferred
- Ability to apply sound legal judgment while remaining practical and business focused
- Strong communication skills and comfort working cross functionally with asset management, development, finance, and senior leadership
