We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team as an Associate Attorney. This position offers a wide range of litigation work including opportunities to become a subject matter expert, write briefs, argue motions, and trial. Associate Attorneys work as part of a team and with independence to evaluate problems to get results.
Key Responsibilities:
- Client (Insured Person/Entity) or Adjuster/Insurance Co.
- Meet with clients to understand their legal issues and provide informed advice.
- Explain legal rights, options, and potential outcomes of cases.
- Case Evaluation and Strategy Development
- Analyze case facts, evidence, and legal precedents to formulate defense strategies.
- Assess the strengths and weaknesses of cases to inform clients about potential risks.
- Legal Research and Writing
- Conduct thorough legal research to support case arguments.
- Draft legal documents, including pleadings, motions, briefs, and discovery requests.
- Discovery Process Management
- Oversee the discovery process, including gathering evidence, taking depositions, and responding to discovery requests.
- Coordinate with experts and witnesses to gather necessary information.
- Court Representation
- Represent clients in court proceedings, including hearings, trials, and arbitrations.
- Present evidence and arguments compellingly and persuasively.
- Zealously advocate for clients in the courtroom as required under the applicable Rules of Professional Conduct.
- Settlement Negotiation
- Engage in negotiations with opposing parties to reach favorable settlements when appropriate.
- Evaluate settlement proposals and advise clients on their implications.
- Compliance and Risk Management
- Advise clients on compliance with legal standards and risk mitigation strategies.
- Stay updated on changes in laws and regulations that affect clients' interests.
- Client Relationship Management
- Maintain ongoing communication with clients to keep them informed about case progress.
- Build trusting relationships to ensure client satisfaction and retention.
- Team Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with other attorneys, paralegals, and support staff to ensure case efficiency.
- Participate in firm meetings and training sessions to enhance legal knowledge and skills.
- Timekeeping
- Responsible for entering time contemporaneously in order to bill clients for services performed. Annual billable goal of 1900 hours.
Requirements:
- 2+ years of relevant experience required.
- Licensed to practice law in North Carolina or South Carolina or eligible for admissions based on an existing UBE score.
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Proficiency in legal research tools and case management software.
- Experience in civil litigation and insurance defense is preferred. Our other areas of law include construction litigation, defense of government and municipalities, employment law, business litigation, premises and product liability, professional malpractice, transportation litigation, and personal injury.
- Membership in relevant to the Firm practice area specific professional organizations is also a plus.
This role is pivotal in ensuring that clients receive competent legal representation, with a focus on achieving favorable outcomes while managing legal risks effectively.

Starting at 85,000 (commensurate with experience)
