Description:

Responsiblities / Duties:
  • Partner with local school boards to offer legal guidance and protection.
  • Advise school boards & administrators on a range of matters including staff relations, pupil rights and obligations, IDEA and Section 504 compliance, school construction, contract procurement, state audits, and many other issues.
  • Offer clients broad support in related areas such as employment and environmental law.
  • Conduct training sessions.
  • Attendance at school boards meetings.
  • Draft board contracts and other documents.
  • Representation of the board in litigation before New Jersey courts, the New Jersey Commissioner of Education, the New Jersey Public Employee Relations Commission and other administrative agencies.

Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admitted to New Jersey Bar.
  • Minimum of 1-year legal practice in education law, preferred, with a thorough knowledge of New Jersey Education laws.
  • Demonstrated skills in advocacy, mediation, and interviewing.
  • Superior analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills, high attention to detail and accuracy, and the ability to work in a deadline driven practice, required.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant computer software programs.
