Visiting Assistant Professor, IC031, 100%, Instructional Academic Staff, Terminal, 9-month appointment 2024-2025 academic year with the possibility of renewal, one vacancy

Duties:
Designs and facilitates classroom, online, and/or laboratory instruction within an academic discipline to ensure quality delivery of instruction and integration of content within an academic work unit. Provides for-credit instruction in formats such as classroom, online and/or laboratory settings, including grading. Serves as an instructor of record.? Advises students, facilitates course assessment, and may supervise student employees. Provides service as a contributing member of the department.

We are seeking applicants for a Visiting Assistant Professor position, with a specialized focus in either Legal Studies or Criminal Justice who demonstrate a commitment to student learning and development. The ideal Legal Studies applicant will have a strong background in areas such as constitutional law, legal theory, civil rights, or international law. The ideal Criminal Justice applicant will have expertise in areas such as criminal law, corrections, or juvenile justice.

Required Qualifications:
  • PhD in criminology, criminal justice, legal studies, or a related field, OR Juris Doctorate (JD)
  • Higher education teaching experience
  • Ability to effectively create an inclusive learning environment for students from diverse backgrounds and foster collaboration and respect for varied perspectives among members of the campus community

Desirable Qualifications:
  • Professional experience in justice settings such as law enforcement agencies, courts, corrections, and/or research
  • Willingness to engage in community partnerships and demonstrated connections to potential law or criminal justice regional partners
  • Experience teaching or learning in an online environment
  • Ability to teach a course on the topic of tribal sovereignty
  • Legal Studies Applicants:
  • Familiarity with and willingness to teach using traditional pre-law pedagogical methods including IRAC.
  • Familiarity with legal databases such as Westlaw
