Responsibilities and practice:
The Birmingham, Alabama office of A Worlds Largest Law Firm is seeking an associate with excellent academic credentials and 1-5 years of experience to join our nationally recognized Tax Controversy practice group. The person hired for this position will work collaboratively with shareholders, associates, and other professionals to accomplish daily tasks and responsibilities. Tasks and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Draft internal legal memoranda as well as briefs, and other documents for filing with federal courts and federal agencies including the Internal Revenue Service
  • Interact directly with agents and attorneys of the Department of Justice, IRS, other federal agencies, state taxing agencies and state regulatory bodies
  • Develop litigation skills through practice in federal district courts, the Circuit Courts of Appeals, and the United States Tax Court
  • Contribute to a broad range of tax matters including complex tax planning
  • Represent public and private companies in tax controversy matters
  • Support the practice group by performing general research and writing

Technical skills:
  • 1-5 years of legal experience
  • Excellent academic credentials
  • JD is required

Other Requirements:
Should be licensed to practice law in the State of Alabama and be in good standing with the Alabama State Bar (or eligible to become licensed in Alabama)
