Job Summary:
We are looking to hire a Patent Counsel with excellent communication skills and the ability to explain, clarify and simplify complex technical information. As a member of An American, Publicly Traded Company' Intellectual Property Group and Legal department, this person will work closely with other team members in building and maintaining An American, Publicly Traded Company' patent portfolio, and interacting with An American, Publicly Traded Company engineering, product, and business groups to provide legal advice on all aspects of intellectual property, and on various contract matters.

Responsibilities include:
  • Participate in and/or oversee patent application preparation and prosecution world-wide.
  • Analyze patents and prepare infringement, validity, and freedom-to-operate opinions.
  • Work on developing strategy for R&D and Product groups on how they can develop an area, strengthen patents to support products.
  • Client counseling through participation in various levels of R&D and other cross-functional team meetings.
  • Identifying research that may be subject to filing of patent applications.
  • Conduct educational client seminars and courses on intellectual property.
  • Work with outside counsel on opinions and aid them in communicating with the right contacts and in gathering correct information.

Requirements:
  • Degree in electrical engineering.
  • J.D. from accredited law schools.
  • 4-6 years' experience with a law firm and/or corporation.
  • Admitted to a State bar.
  • Admitted to U.S. Patent & Trademark Office.
  • Comprehensive semiconductor and power electronics knowledge.
  • Experience with preparation and prosecution of US patents; preparation of infringement, validity, and freedom-to-operate opinions; client counseling.
  • Transactional/licensing experience preferred but not required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
