An American Financial Services Mutual Organization Based in Milwaukee is seeking an experienced and agile real estate investment attorney interested in joining a diverse, challenging, and fast-paced practice advising the Company on a wide range of issues as the Company works to transform how clients experience financial security.

What's the role:
This attorney will be a member of the Department's Real Estate Investments Team and will support the Company's $240+ billion investment portfolio. Specifically, this attorney will provide legal advice on matters relating to the Company's commercial mortgage loan and real estate equity portfolio. Most legal work is handled entirely in-house. In addition to base salary discussed below, An American Financial Services Mutual Organization Based in Milwaukee offers a competitive total rewards package including eligibility for a bonus under the Company's annual incentive compensation plan. ?

As a member of the Real Estate Investments Team, this attorney will:
  • Serve as primary legal counsel to the Company's real estate investment professionals in structuring, negotiating and documenting complex, direct commercial mortgage loans (floating, fixed, permanent and construction), real estate acquisitions and joint venture and development transactions; and
  • Provide legal support for a wide range of asset management and loan servicing activities for the Company's real estate investment portfolio including development matters, joint venture amendments, consents to loan transfers, leasing and management agreements, and other asset management and loan servicing needs.

  • Candidates must have at least three to seven years of legal experience in one or more of the following areas: commercial mortgage lending, commercial real estate development, real estate joint ventures, large commercial real estate acquisitions.
  • To qualify, this candidate must be able to analyze a variety of legal issues, synthesize complex information, and provide solution-oriented legal advice to business professionals throughout the enterprise.
  • A candidate must have an exemplary academic record and a Juris Doctorate degree; note that a license to practice law in the State of Wisconsin or a commitment to become licensed within the first year of employment is required.
