Title: Real Estate Counsel

The Real Estate Counsel position will provide legal support across the organization with a focus on real estate and development activities. This position will work closely with East Point's General Counsel and with the Project Development Team to support the ongoing development activities of the company, as well as develop and manage the real estate portfolio of assets at various stages of development, construction and operation. The position will report directly to the General Counsel and may have direct reports over time.   

Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Provide legal oversight land management of real estate activities, working closely with General Counsel and Real Estate Paralegal
  • Develop and administer legal processes and procedures 
  • Project interface with multiple parties including parent company, board members, outside counsel, and financial partners 
  • Interact and negotiate with contract counterparties and their counsel 
  • Conduct and manage all aspects of internal real estate due diligence activities
  • Conduct internal trainings for Project Development Team and other relevant business lines within real estate-related focus areas
  • Draft, review, revise, and negotiate purchase and lease options, site leases, easements, licenses, and other real estate-related contracts, amendments, legal notices, and related documentation 
  • Manage all aspects of real estate closings
  • Provide legal support for real estate diligence and closings in connection with M&A transactions
  • Coordinate with and manage external counsel on real estate-related legal matters  
  • Represent the company's capabilities and image, including potential participation in parent company forums and events, conferences, trade shows, and other business development opportunities 
  • Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned 

Skills:
  • Strong written and verbal communication; ability to communicate clearly and effectively with audiences with varying degrees of technical/legal understanding 
  • Strong negotiation and presentation skills 
  • Extensive legal subject matter expertise and experience handling real estate and development transactions, diligence and related matters (sales/acquisitions, leasing, financing, options, easements, title, survey, environmental, land use, permitting, etc.)
  • Strong ability to multi-task and effectively address competing priorities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft software suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Teams, etc.)

Education & Experience:
  • J.D. 
  • Minimum of four (4) years of practice in the area of commercial real estate or similar area
  • Active and valid Bar license in state of residence 
  • Development experience preferred (commercial real estate or renewable energy)
  • Energy storage or other renewable energy industry experience preferred 

Travel & Time Commitment:
  • Limited travel related to company retreats and possibly industry conferences
  • This is a full-time, exempt salaried position. Standard office hours are from 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM EST. The demands of projects may require work outside of these times.
