Title: Counsel

This Counsel position will be expected to provide legal support to the company with a focus on one or more of the following primary areas: Regulatory & Compliance; and/or General Contracting & Vendor Management. This position will work closely with East Point's General Counsel and with multiple business line teams, as applicable, to provide legal support for the ongoing activities of the company, as well as develop and manage the company's portfolio of assets at various stages of development, construction and operation. The position will report directly to the General Counsel and may have direct reports over time.   

Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Provide legal oversight of company activities within designated focus areas, collaborating closely with relevant business lines and other members of the Legal Department 
  • Develop and administer legal processes and procedures, including compliance programs
  • Project interface with multiple parties including parent company, board members, outside counsel, financial partners, and regulatory and other governmental authorities
  • Interact and negotiate with contract counterparties and their counsel 
  • Conduct and oversee internal due diligence activities 
  • Conduct internal trainings for relevant business lines within designated focus areas
  • Draft, review, revise, and negotiate contracts, amendments, legal notices, and related documentation 
  • Coordinate with and manage external counsel on legal matters  
  • Represent the company's capabilities and image, including potential participation in parent company forums and events, conferences, trade shows, and other business development opportunities 
  • Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned 

Skills:
  • Strong written and verbal communication; ability to communicate clearly and effectively with audiences with varying degrees of technical/legal understanding 
  • Strong negotiation and presentation skills 
  • Extensive legal subject matter expertise in one or more of the following areas:
  • Regulatory & Compliance (relevant to independent power producers, grid-scale BESS, renewable energy industry, etc.)
  • General Contracting & Vendor Management (power purchase agreements/revenue contracts, service/supply/software agreements, etc.)
  • Strong ability to multi-task and effectively address competing priorities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft software suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Teams, etc.)

Education & Experience:
  • J.D. 
  • Minimum of four (4) years of practice in one or more of the above-referenced focus areas 
  • Active and valid Bar license in state of residence 
  • Experience representing independent power producers preferred
  • Energy storage or other renewable energy industry experience preferred 

Travel & Time Commitment:
  • Limited travel related to company retreats and possibly industry conferences
  • This is a full-time, exempt salaried position. Standard office hours are from 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM EST. The demands of projects may require work outside of these times.
