We have an exciting opportunity for a Pro Bono Counsel in the Atlanta and Washington, DC office at A Global Multinational Law Firm. We are searching for someone who wants to be a valued contributor and member of a talented and dynamic team of lawyers, paralegals and business professionals.

The Pro Bono Counsel works with the Partner Chair of the Pro Bono Committee and Chief Responsible Business & Pro Bono Practice Officer to drive forward the firm's strategic plan for pro bono practice. The Pro Bono Counsel is responsible for overseeing large-scale pro bono projects, partnerships with corporate clients, sourcing and supporting impact litigation matters, and maintains a pro bono legal practice. This role reports directly to the Chief Responsible Business & Pro Bono Practice Officer and Pro Bono Committee Partner Chair.

Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Helps develop pro bono projects and matches matters with appropriate staffing and good judgement.
  • Screens requests for pro bono assistance from organizations and individuals.
  • Works with team members and the recruiting and professional development departments to match pro bono matters that interest our lawyers and provide desired professional development opportunities.
  • Approves pro bono matters in our intake system, subject to established protocol, and ensures accurate data collection for pro bono administration.
  • Identifies key impact litigation opportunities for the firm and supervises large-scale pro bono projects as part of their legal practice.
  • Applies an understanding of immigration law when advising teams on immigration cases and as part of their legal practice.
  • Applies an understanding of risk management issues related to pro bono practice and is skilled to advise attorneys taking on public interest work.
  • Maintains excellent relationships with community organizations that partner with the firm on pro bono work.
  • Supports internal and external communications for pro bono including newsletters, annual reports, videos, and social media.
  • Supports firm-wide and local office pro bono committee members to maintain and increase engagement among members.
  • Works closely with alumni relations to integrate alumni into the firm's pro bono program.
  • Leads pro bono initiatives to support the programs of our corporate clients.
  • Develops innovative solutions to increase pro bono participation among our lawyers and corporate client partners.
  • Works closely with International colleagues and helps identify cross-jurisdictional pro bono matters for global engagement.
  • Plans and oversees events to recognize pro bono service.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • A Juris Doctorate degree is required in from an accredited college or university.
  • At least 10 years of legal practice required and litigation experience preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills are required. Must be self-directed, self-motivated, possess strong organizational and time management skills, as well as analytical and problem solving skills, and work with a high level of professionalism.
  • Legal Expertise: Profound understanding of various legal areas, including immigration law, with the ability to advise on pro bono matters effectively.
  • Project Management: Demonstrated ability to develop, coordinate, and supervise pro bono projects and initiatives, ensuring efficient execution and delivery.
  • Strategic Thinking: Capacity to identify key impact litigation opportunities and develop innovative solutions to enhance pro bono participation and engagement.
  • Relationship Building: Strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain excellent relationships with community organizations, internal stakeholders, and corporate clients.
  • Communication: Effective communication skills to support internal and external communications for pro bono initiatives, including newsletters, reports, videos, and social media.
  • Collaboration: Proven track record of working collaboratively with team members, recruiting and professional development departments, alumni relations, and international colleagues to advance pro bono objectives.
  • Risk Management: Knowledge of risk management issues related to pro bono practice and ability to provide guidance to attorneys engaging in public interest work.
  • Event Planning: Experience in planning and overseeing events to recognize pro bono service and engage stakeholders in pro bono initiatives.
  • Data Management: Proficiency in managing pro bono matters in intake systems, ensuring accurate data collection for pro bono administration and reporting purposes.
  • Leadership: Ability to lead pro bono initiatives, inspire engagement among members, and support the programs of corporate clients through effective project leadership and management.
