Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP, a global AmLaw 50 firm, is seeking a corporate mid-level associate with 4-6 years of private equity experience to join its nationwide private equity team in Chicago, Washington, D.C., or New York.

One of Sheppard's core strengths, our Private Equity practice, assists clients throughout the U.S. and abroad in maximizing their business opportunities. We represent private equity funds, independent sponsors, family offices and their portfolio companies in connection with mergers and acquisitions, leveraged buyouts and recapitalizations, growth and other financings, corporate, LLC and partnership formation, and corporate partnering, joint venture, and other strategic alliance arrangements.  Our Private Equity practice frequently intersects with our industry-specific practices of renown, including Aerospace & Defense, Healthcare, Life Sciences, Food & Beverage, Renewable Energy, Communication, FinTech, AI and Entertainment.

At Sheppard, we train our associates and help them grow as lawyers, and part of that training involves early and expected exposure to clients.  This is an excellent opportunity to join an energetic and collaborative team.

Associates are routinely required to:
  • Draft transaction agreements and documents with efficiency and clarity;
  • Negotiate deal terms alongside clients and supervising attorneys;
  • Manage transaction closings and processes;
  • Provide thorough factual and legal research and analysis;
  • Competently and professionally communicate with clients and supervising attorneys; and
  • Work with and oversee more junior team members.

The ideal candidate will have the following knowledge, skills, abilities, and qualifications:
  • Experience with private equity transactions is required;
  • Creativity and flexibility to handle numerous types and structures of transactions;
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing;
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and to meet deadlines;
  • Ability to work professionally and effectively with Clients, Partners, Associate and Support Staff, and with others as part of a team;
  • Exceptional organization and project management skills;
  • A desire to grow the practice and engage with their local business community;
  • Candidate must be able to provide effective and reliable legal services to clients and supervising attorneys;
  • Excellent academic credentials; and
  • Must be admitted to the bar of the state in which office is located or preparing to obtain admission through reciprocity with another state.
