Role Description:
This is a full-time on-site role for a Local Government Attorney. As a Local Government Attorney at A Dyed in The Wool Local Government Law Firm, you will be responsible to carry out the following tasks:
  • Analyze and quickly produce a high-quality written work product.
  • Manage a diverse caseload, including, but not limited to, ante litem demands, insurance defense, condemnations, labor and employment, code enforcement, nuisance abatement, land use, zoning, and quiet titled disputes, public procurement, contract disputes, special statutory proceedings governing local governmental entities, administrative law, as well as other disputes in State and Federal courts.
  • Conduct comprehensive legal research and analysis to develop effective litigation strategies and ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and precedents.
  • Draft and file legal pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, and other documents to advocate for clients' interests and present persuasive arguments in court proceedings.
  • Represent clients in hearings, trials, depositions, and alternative dispute resolution processes, including conducting examinations, cross-examinations, and oral arguments.
  • Provide strategic legal advice to local government officials and departments regarding litigation risks, potential outcomes, and strategies to mitigate legal exposure.
  • Provide legal advice to government officials during public meetings and executive sessions.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including government officials, department heads, and legal colleagues, to develop litigation strategies aligned with clients' goals and objectives.
  • Stay up-to-date on changes in laws, regulations, and court decisions relevant to local government operations and litigations, advising on potential impacts and required actions.
  • Negotiate settlements and mediate disputes to achieve favorable outcomes for clients while considering the best interests of the community.
  • Participate and conduct internal investigations on behalf of local governmental entities.
  • Monitor and supervise outside and insurance counsel
  • Provide update to insurance carriers
  • Maintain accurate and organized case files, documentation, and records related to litigation matters, ensuring compliance with recordkeeping and confidentiality requirements.

Qualifications:
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the State Bar of Georgia.
  • Experience in employment law and civil rights law is a plus.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience as a litigator, preferably with a focus on local government law.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing complex litigation matters from inception to resolution.
  • Excellent litigation skills, including case management, legal research, legal writing, and oral advocacy.
  • In-depth knowledge of local government operations, regulations, and relevant laws, including land use, zoning, employment, public procurement, and administrative law.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to articulate complex legal concepts clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Demonstrated integrity, professionalism, and commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
