We are looking for someone to join our Legal Team in the role of Litigation Counsel. If you are interested in helping to build and create as we take care of our residents today and reshape communities to attract the resident of the future, then maybe you should join us.

What you will do:
  • Responsible for all landlord-tenant litigation across properties in Manhattan and Queens.
  • Draft predicate notices for nuisance cases
  • Draft petitions for nuisance cases
  • Appear in Housing Court on a frequent (weekly) basis to handle non-payment, holdover, and HP actions, inclusive of negotiations, drafting stipulations of settlements, and trials.
  • Draft, file and manage service of process of litigation documents relating to non-payment and holdover proceedings.
  • Maintain, with support, the court calendar in an effective, transparent and efficient manner.
  • Supervise two litigation paralegals.
  • Work closely with Senior Litigation Counsel in executing deliverables and implementing best practices within company key objectives and results.
  • Manage administrative agency complaints, including but not limited to preparing responses to DHCR overcharge complaints and Division of Human Rights Complaints.
  • Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Tracking progress of all assigned litigation matters.
  • Manage and/or complete special projects and assignments as needed.

What you should have:
  • Law Degree from accredited law school
  • Member of State Bar of NY
  • 2-4 years' experience practicing NYC Housing Law
  • Strong working knowledge of NYC Housing Courts and Landlord-Tenant Law as well as rent stabilization regulations and statutes
  • Experience with residential leases in New York City and familiarity with commercial and retail leases a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Able to multi-task under high pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Superior time management and organizational skills
