What You'll Do:
Reporting to Marmon's Chief Litigation Counsel, the Litigation Counsel will handle a diverse portfolio of litigation matters, including personal injury, product liability, property damage, warranty claim, toxic tort, and commercial litigation. Key responsibilities include:
  • Analyze claims to advise business personnel on litigation strategy, risk, and proposed resolution, including seeking timely authority for settlement and/or trial
  • Manage and collaborate with outside counsel to direct litigation strategy and defense
  • Craft and refine coordinated national, state, business unit and case-specific strategies, including development of case management protocols and monitoring of litigation trends
  • Implement meaningful litigation budgets and manage outside counsel legal spend
  • Supervise the preparation and production of key discovery responses, document productions, expert retention, and corporate representative depositions
  • Attend mediation and trial as needed
  • Identify and manage defense cost contributions from insurers
  • Oversee company-wide Medicare reporting
  • Ensure responses to subpoenas and record requests comply with company policy

What You'll Bring to the Role:
  • J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school, with proven academic success
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in civil litigation defense
  • License to practice law in at least one state, preferably Illinois
  • Clear, concise, and persuasive verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to articulate complex legal concepts to a lay audience
  • Strong work ethic coupled with diligence, energy, and ability to act independently and adapt to changing priorities, while being a team player
  • Ability to work calmly and efficiently under pressure
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to understand the Company's various businesses and products
  • Proactive in addressing potential issues

Preferred Experience:
  • First- or second-chair trial, mediation, and/or appellate experience
  • Familiarity with toxic tort/asbestos litigation
  • Experience representing industrial manufacturing clients

Pay Range:
144,000.00 - 216,000.00
