Description:
Leone Alberts & Duus, APC is an AV-rated litigation firm representing public entities — cities, school districts, community college districts, and other governmental agencies — throughout California. For 50 years our trial attorneys have successfully litigated and tried cases in both federal and state court. We're looking for a litigation attorney with 3 to 5+ years of civil litigation experience, ideally including employment, civil rights, personal injury, premises liability, commercial disputes, or insurance defense. Prior public entity defense experience is a plus but not required.
Responsibilities:
Supporting litigation from initial investigation through trial under the guidance of senior attorneys — client contact, written discovery, deposition preparation and attendance, legal research and drafting (motions, briefs, correspondence), assisting with mediation and settlement preparation, and trial preparation. Public entity clients face policy and political considerations beyond a typical civil defendant, so this role includes learning to develop case strategy alongside senior attorneys and the client. As experience builds, responsibilities grow to include increasing caseload ownership, court appearances, and first-chair opportunities.
Qualifications:
Active California State Bar license; strong legal research and writing skills; ability to manage assigned tasks and deadlines within a caseload under senior attorney supervision.
Compensation & Benefits:
$130,000–$150,000+ year, commensurate with experience. 401(k), health/dental/vision insurance, HSA, disability insurance, professional development assistance, and a flexible schedule.
Location:
Based in our Concord, CA office (94520). This role requires in-person onboarding and training during the initial period of employment; a hybrid schedule may be available afterward, with in-person availability always expected for court appearances, depositions, and case team work.
