Description:

Varnum is seeking a staff attorney to support its Naples, Florida Real Estate team with lien foreclosure and foreclosure litigation.

Location: Naples, Florida

Position Type: Full-Time, Staff Attorney Track (non-partnership track)

About the role:
Varnum is seeking an experienced Staff Attorney, Staff Associate, or Staff Counsel to manage a caseload focused predominantly on lien foreclosure and foreclosure-related litigation. This is a hands-on litigation role for an attorney who wants to control their matters from intake through resolution, including drafting, filing, and appearing in court, without the expectation of pursuing a partnership track. We are looking for someone with subject-matter experience in Florida foreclosure law, and who thrives on independent casework and values a stable and predictable practice area.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage an active caseload of lien foreclosure and related foreclosure matters from filing through judgment and, where applicable, sale or appeal.
  • Draft, review, and file all necessary pleadings, motions, and court documents independently, with minimal supervision.
  • Appear in court on behalf of clients for hearings, trials, and other proceedings related to foreclosure litigation.
  • Conduct legal research on Florida lien and foreclosure statutes, case law, and procedural rules to support case strategy.
  • Communicate directly with clients, opposing counsel, title companies, and other stakeholders regarding case status and strategy.
  • Monitor court dockets and deadlines to ensure timely compliance with all filing and procedural requirements.
  • Collaborate with paralegals and support staff to ensure accurate case documentation and file management.
  • Stay current on changes to Florida foreclosure law, lien priority rules, and relevant local court procedures.

Qualifications:
  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • Active member in good standing of The Florida Bar (required).
  • Demonstrated experience handling lien foreclosure, mortgage foreclosure, or related real property litigation matters in Florida courts.
  • Strong working knowledge of Florida foreclosure law, lien priority principles, and applicable civil procedure rules.
  • Proven ability to manage a caseload independently, including preparing and filing pleadings and motions without extensive oversight.
  • Comfortable and experienced appearing in court, including contested hearings and trials.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines across an active docket.
  • Must be able to work in our Naples, Florida office.

What we offer:
  • A defined staff attorney career path with a sustainable, predictable workload; well suited to attorneys who want to focus on substantive legal work rather than firm management or partnership responsibilities.
  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience.
  • Benefits package, including health insurance, 401k, and paid time off.
  • Supportive team environment with access to firm resources, paralegal support, and administrative staff.
