About the Firm and the Role
Varnum LLP seeks an Associate Attorney to join its Intellectual Property (IP) Practice Team in one of the firm's Michigan or Florida offices. Varnum's IP attorneys handle a wide range of patent, trademark, and other intellectual property matters, including both prosecution and litigation. The team regularly appears before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), as well as in state and federal courts, administrative proceedings, and appellate courts. Responsibilities:
The associate will assist the IP Practice Team on a variety of intellectual property matters, with a focus on patent prosecution and IP litigation. The ideal candidate will have an aptitude for business development and a genuine interest in actively practicing across a variety of segments of IP law.

Qualifications:
Candidates must be registered to practice before the USPTO or possess the educational and technical prerequisites necessary to sit for the USPTO registration examination. Candidates must also maintain active bar membership in at least one U.S. state. The successful candidate will have one to three years of experience practicing intellectual property law with a law firm or in an in-house role. A technical background is required, with a preference for candidates who have technical capabilities in computer science or electrical engineering.
