Description:Shumaker Loop & Kendrick is seeking a highly motivated junior Financial Services Associate with 1-4 years of litigation experience to join our nationally recognized Financial Services team in Sarasota, Florida. The successful candidate will join a collaborative, entrepreneurial team and work alongside representing financial institutions, broker-dealers, financial advisors, and other industry participants in complex litigation, arbitration, regulatory, and employment-related matters.
The position is an opportunity to gain hands-on experience defending and prosecuting sophisticated matters before FINRA arbitration panels, state and federal courts, and regulatory bodies, including FINRA and the SEC.
Government attorneys with litigation experience and candidates with judicial clerkship experience are encouraged to apply.
Where You'll Work
This is an in-person role located in our Sarasota, FL, office.
What You'll Do:
- Manage and support all phases of litigation and arbitration, including case assessment, discovery, motion practice, depositions, hearings, and trial preparation.
- Draft pleadings, dispositive motions, briefs, arbitration submissions, and correspondence.
- Conduct legal research and develop litigation strategies.
- Participate in FINRA arbitrations and regulatory matters involving financial advisors, broker-dealers, and financial institutions.
- Work directly with partners and clients on employment, restrictive covenant, securities, and commercial litigation matters.
- Attend client meetings, witness interviews, hearings, mediation sessions, and arbitrations.
- Collaborate with a high-performing team on complex, nationally significant financial services disputes.
What We're Looking For:
- Juris Doctor degree from an ABA accredited law school and active membership in good standing with the Florida Bar
- A minimum of one year of litigation experience, preferably involving commercial litigation, employment litigation, securities litigation, financial services disputes, or arbitration. Experience with FINRA matters, securities disputes, or restrictive covenant litigation is a plus, but not required.
- Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills including a strong aptitude for managing and prioritizing multiple projects and deadlines
- Experience drafting motions, briefs, and discovery materials commensurate with experience
- Comfortable handling depositions and court appearances commensurate with experience
- A thorough knowledge and understanding of local, state and federal rules of procedure
- Ability to work with a variety of attorneys and staff, and maintain a high degree of confidentiality

Physical Requirements:
- Sitting frequently, approximately six out of eight hours per day. Sitting position static for up to one-half hour at a time.
- Standing or walking frequently, up to six hours per day.
- Lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds occasionally, up to one hour per day.
- Bending and stooping occasionally, up to one-half hour per day.
