About the role:Widerman Malek is seeking a patent attorney with 0–3 years of experience to join our firm at our headquarters in Melbourne, Florida. Recent law school graduates who are admitted to a state bar and registered, or eligible for registration, with the USPTO are encouraged to apply.
This is a growth-oriented, in-office role. We will provide a steady pipeline of substantive work, modern patent prosecution tools to help you work efficiently, and mentorship to support your development into a self-sufficient practitioner. As your practice develops, our goal is to help you build strong client relationships and eventually a book of business, supported by a firm that genuinely invests in your success.
This is an in-office position in Melbourne, Florida.
What You'll Do:
- Draft and prosecute patent applications across a range of technologies, including software, electronics, medical devices, satellite technology, and consumer devices
- Conduct prior art searches, patentability analyses, and freedom-to-operate reviews
- Communicate with clients and inventors to understand technical innovations
- Respond to Office Actions and work with attorneys and staff to manage prosecution timelines
- Use modern docketing and patent prosecution tools to work efficiently and accurately
- Collaborate with attorneys across practice areas in a collegial, team-oriented environment
- As your practice matures, take on increased client relationship and business development responsibilities
What We're Looking For:
- J.D. from an accredited law school
- Admission to, or eligibility for admission to, a state bar
- Registration to practice before the USPTO or eligibility to sit for the USPTO registration examination
- Technical background suitable for patent work for our clients, including electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, physics, biomedical engineering, or a related field
- Strong writing, analytical, technical, and communication skills
- 0–3 years of relevant experience; recent graduates are encouraged to apply
