Responsibilities:
Core Responsibilities of a Family Law Attorney

Caseload Management
Independently manage a full caseload of family law matters (e.g., divorce, custody, child support, modifications, enforcement)
  • Develop and execute case strategies from intake through resolution
  • Prioritize tasks and deadlines to ensure timely and effective case progression
  • Maintain accurate, organized digital case files and documentation

Court Representation
  • Draft, review, and file pleadings, motions, disclosure statements, discovery responses, and other legal documents
  • Appear in court regularly for hearings, trials, conferences, and settlement conferences
  • Prepare exhibits, witnesses, and arguments for evidentiary hearings and trials
  • Advocate persuasively for clients while maintaining professionalism and ethical standards

Supervision & Collaboration

  • Supervise and mentor assigned paralegal(s), delegating tasks and overseeing their work product
  • Provide clear instructions, feedback, and guidance to support staff on case-related assignments
  • Collaborate effectively with other attorneys, legal assistants, and administrative team members

Client Communication & Relationship Management

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients throughout the life of their case
  • Provide proactive, compassionate, and timely communication to manage expectations and build trust
  • Conduct consultations, strategy meetings, and settlement negotiations with clients and opposing counsel
  • Educate clients on legal processes, risks, and likely outcomes to empower informed decision-making

Qualifications:
  • Active license to practice law or as a Legal Paraprofessional (LP) in Arizona — required (Applicants awaiting bar results or licensure will not be considered)
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of experience handling family law matters preferred, but exceptional newly licensed candidates will be considered
  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills with the ability to develop and execute effective case strategies
  • Excellent courtroom presence and persuasive advocacy skills
  • High level of self-motivation, personal discipline, and initiative — able to thrive with flexibility and minimal oversight
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to build trust with clients and collaborate with team members
  • Tech-savvy and comfortable leveraging legal software, digital files, and virtual communication tools
