About the role:We are seeking an experienced Estate Planning Attorney to conduct free initial phone consultations with prospective clients. You'll educate callers about wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and health care advance directives; assess matter fit and jurisdiction; and guide qualified prospects to next steps—all with clear, empathetic communication.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct 15–30 minute phone consultations (scheduled and inbound).
- Explain core estate planning options (wills, revocable/irrevocable trusts, POA, health care directives), including pros/cons and typical timelines.
- Perform preliminary issue spotting (beneficiary designations, titling, blended families, special needs, small business interests, multi-state property).
- Verify jurisdiction, perform conflict checks, and recommend next steps or referrals.
- Document consults in the firm's CRM/case management system with clear notes and follow-ups.
- Coordinate engagement agreements, fee quotes, and scheduling for attorney-of-record/drafting meetings.
- Collaborate with the intake team on conversion best practices and client experience.
Qualifications:
- J.D. and active Maryland bar license in good standing (additional DC bar a plus).
- 2+ years estate planning experience (counseling and/or drafting).
- Exceptional phone communication—plain-English explanations; warm, professional tone.
- Strong issue spotting and judgment; knows when to refer or escalate.
- Experience with client intake, conflict checks, documentation, and e-signature tools.
- Familiarity with Clio/MyCase or similar preferred; bilingual a plus.
What Success Looks Like:
- Reliable weekday coverage; responsive, client-centric communication.
- Accurate documentation enabling a smooth handoff to drafting/attorney-of-record.
- Ethical, compliant consults with strong conversion to signed engagements.
- Positive client feedback on clarity and care.
Compensation & Terms
- $40–$50 per hour, depending on experience.
- Contract (1099) arrangement; no benefits.
- Consistent weekday schedule; optional evening blocks may be available by agreement.
