Job Overview:An Independent Oil and Natural Gas Exploration and Production (E&p) Company is adding a new Health, Environment, Safety & Security (HES&S) attorney position to its Law Organization to support the Company's domestic operations. This position is located at An Independent Oil and Natural Gas Exploration and Production (E&p) Company headquarters in Houston, Texas, and requires law firm experience in an environmental law practice group. The position will work closely with multiple internal groups, including HES&S, Operations, Government Relations, Global Supply Chain, and Business Development.
Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:
- Providing legal advice and counsel relating to An Independent Oil and Natural Gas Exploration and Production (E&p) Company's upstream oil and gas assets on HES&S regulatory matters arising under the CWA, CAA, RCRA, CERCLA, ESA, etc.
- Representing An Independent Oil and Natural Gas Exploration and Production (E&p) Company in enforcement or other regulatory actions before federal and state agencies with jurisdiction over environmental, health, safety, security and regulatory issues.
- Participating in the Corporate Emergency Response Team and managing privileged and confidential investigations into HES&S incidents as needed.
- Providing HES&S advice and counsel on mergers, acquisitions, and Global Supply Chain contracts.
- Managing a docket of environmental cleanup sites companywide and coordinating as appropriate with the litigation and operations law teams.
- Representing the Company in industry advocacy groups with respect to HES&S issues.
- Working with assets and the litigation team to manage and resolve disputes with third parties relating to HES&S issues.
- Providing HES&S legal training to field asset areas and traveling to those assets periodically for training and other work.
- Working closely with outside counsel as needed to meet the Company's HES&S legal needs.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree and Juris Doctor in Law from an accredited U.S. law school.
- Active membership in the State Bar of Texas, or actively admitted in another U.S. jurisdiction.
- Experience in HES&S law relating to upstream oil and gas (preferably 5+ years), including at least four years at a large law firm in a practice group dedicated to environmental law. Candidates with experience relating to HES&S and regulatory issues in Texas, North Dakota, New Mexico, and/or Oklahoma preferred
