Description:

A Construction Company, is looking for an experienced attorney who, in consultation with management, provides guidance, direction, and assistance on a wide variety of legal matters. The position will be physically located in our Houston, Texas office (part of the A Construction Company complex) and report to QISG's Group General Counsel. Its primary responsibility will be to provide legal oversight of QISG's Procurement efforts and provide support to A Construction Company enterprise-wide supply-chain initiatives, with a focus on large complex EPC projects in the electric power industry. Job title and compensation will be dependent upon level of relevant experience and qualifications.

Duties:
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and purchase orders directly with customers, subcontractors and vendors.
  • Implement legal processes and contract templates for Procurement efforts (including subcontracts with design and construction professionals as well as purchase orders with vendors for materials and equipment) with applicable flow-down provisions from customer contracts where appropriate.
  • Provide legal support for international shipping, customs, and trade compliance activities and work with freight forwarders and customs brokers on import/export classifications and customs documents.
  • Collaborate with Procurement group on development of requests for proposals for subcontractors/vendors and risk registers for various categories of equipment and materials that will be incorporated into the work.
  • Conduct trainings on contract templates.
  • Provide contract support and advise on contract issues as needed during project execution, including change orders.
  • Assist with claims, litigation and regulatory investigations.
  • Travel to various company locations, project sites, legal proceedings, and contract negotiations as required.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Experience and Education
  • Juris Doctorate granted by an ABA accredited law school.
  • Current license to practice law.
  • 5+ years of contracts-related experience, including negotiating with customers and vendors.

Preferred Qualifications / Experience
  • 2+ years of experience negotiating contracts in the engineering or construction industry.
  • Experience related to international supply-chain activities (including INCOTERMS, customs, and duties).
  • Experience related to EPC projects (electric power industry in particular).
