Overview:We are seeking an experienced Associate Attorney to join our Virginia practice. This is a full-time position for an attorney who is ready to carry a substantial caseload, work directly with clients and families, and contribute to the growth of the firm.
Responsibilities include advising clients on estate planning, trust, guardianship, and long-term care matters; drafting wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and related instruments; handling estate and trust administration; conducting legal research; managing files from intake through completion; conducting client signings; and participating in marketing and business development to grow the practice.
This position is hybrid following an initial in-office onboarding period. Because elder law is client-facing by nature, in-person meetings and signings remain a regular part of the role.
Skills:
- Extensive knowledge of estate planning and probate
- Experience with special needs trusts and guardianship
- Excellent legal writing skills for drafting motions, pleadings, contracts, and client correspondence
- Ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly to clients with empathy and professionalism
- Patient and empathetic approach with older clients and their families
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Commitment to ongoing professional development in elder law
Essential Qualifications:
- Active Virginia State Bar license in good standing (mandatory)
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in trusts and estates
- Strong drafting skills and exceptional attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Comfortable with marketing, networking, and business development activities
- Strong technology skills and comfort learning new software
