Overview:
Reporting to GB's Senior Counsel – Contracts, this role offers a unique opportunity for a pragmatic commercial generalist with strong organizational skills, sharp negotiating ability, and sound business judgment. The position supports GB's contract function and addresses a range of commercial matters arising from GB's operations.

How you'll make an impact
  • Proactively contribute to GB's contracting function, including its customer service center, outside contractors, as well as internal employees.
  • Handle a variety of transactional issues arising from GB operations, including reviewing, drafting, negotiating and interpreting a variety of complex agreements, including but not limited to, non-form or non-standard client and insurance carrier service agreements, vendor services agreements (including IT and other professional services), consulting services agreements, and other agreements.
  • Offer continual and forward-thinking strategic mentorship on contractual and business risks and advise on contract interpretation as well as potential dispute matters.
  • Serve as a vital business and legal partner with expertise in business insight, outstanding competence, and talent for encouraging relationships across the organization. Interface effectively with management at all levels.
  • Ensure that all agreements accurately reflect GB's business objectives and comply with all laws and regulatory requirements. Demonstrate in-depth understanding of business operations and objectives to assess risk and bring together cross-functional teams to ensure business alignment.
  • Work closely with management, other GB legal representatives, and the Gallagher corporate legal department on strategic initiatives commercial and legal issues. Collaborate and work in a team environment with other Gallagher legal representatives in analyzing and implementing various projects, including improvements on data metrics and reporting and automation.
  • Identify and provide proactive advice and counsel on a variety of other legal matters that may arise, including IP, bankruptcy, and regulatory issues.

About You:
  • J.D. degree from an accredited law school
  • License to practice law under the Bar of any state that enables admission to practice as in-house counsel in Illinois.
  • Having at least 5 years' established experience in reviewing, drafting, and negotiating various commercial agreements, preferably in both corporate and law firm settings.
  • Proven capacity to manage both internal and external client calls regarding complex issues is essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to be a self-starter with an emphasis on relationship building in a high-volume environment.
  • Experience with global business transactions is desired as is familiarity with substantive issues relating to providing business to business professional services.
  • Proven track record to effectively work within a cross-functional team and drive sophisticated global transactions and initiatives to completion in a fast-paced and entrepreneurial setting.
  • Displaying strong interpersonal skills and a commanding presence, show the capability to influence results and navigate escalating transactional complexities, all while delivering top-notch client counseling.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with an ability to encourage trust and confidence with stakeholders at all levels by virtue of keen business acumen, professional competence, integrity, and personal style.
  • Ability to handle sensitive situations thoughtfully yet firmly, to be assertive without being adversarial and to take unpopular positions when necessary while maintaining trust and credibility.
  • Advanced critical thinking and analytical ability, and the ability to understand and integrate details of the business to ensure new and existing business relationships are workable across functions.
