A Global Energy Company is currently seeking a Real Estate attorney to assist with the development, construction, financing, and operation of wind, solar, battery storage, and green hydrogen projects throughout the United States. The AES Corporation is an industry leader in the transition to clean energy, working to improve lives by delivering greener and more thoughtful energy solutions that the world needs. The AES Real Estate Legal Team is an integral part of that effort, working in coordination with the Development, Real Estate and Land Acquisition teams, to secure the real estate rights vital to develop, construct, finance, and operate AES's projects across the country. The successful candidate will work on, reporting to a senior member of the team. This is a meaningful and fast-paced role working with internal and external key stakeholders and will provide immediate exposure to a wide variety of renewable energy matters, including outside the real estate space and in collaboration with other functional teams across the organization.

The ability to work from the AES CE office in either Salt Lake City, Utah or Louisville, Colorado is strongly preferred. The role requires working on multiple tasks and projects and may include some travel as needed. Working on a cross-functional team with origination, project development, legal, finance, engineering, construction, and outside consultants, attorneys, surveyors, landowners, customers, project partners, and utility companies.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist in a wide variety of real estate transactional matters, including preparing and negotiating various real estate instruments such as purchase or lease agreements, deeds, affidavits, and estoppels, reviewing title proforma and surveys, and coordinating closings by handling real estate deliverables, closing checklists and deadlines.
  • Coordinate with escrow and title officers, surveyors, legal counsel, and cross-functional AES team members.
  • Support the team to resolve unique title and survey issues.
  • Assist and advise in all legal real estate aspects of project development, construction, and financing, including ongoing survey activities, site plan review and buildable area analyses, and negotiations with investors and title companies to acquire suitable lender's and owner's title policies.
  • Support project legal diligence during financing and M&A transactions.
  • Lead outside counsel.

Desired Experience and Skills:
  • At least 2 years of real estate transactional or title experience, preferably at a law firm, sophisticated in-house legal department, or title company.
  • A JD is required.
  • Renewable energy sector experience preferred.
  • Background with financial and real property closings, title and survey review, and title insurance policies.
  • Project and case management skills including a strong attention to detail and an aptitude for handling and prioritizing multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Active license to practice law required.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
  • Passion for renewable energy development.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including interpersonal communication skills.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work optimally as an individual and as part of a team.
