A Massachusetts Law Firm has an open position for an exceptional attorney with at least 3 to 5 years of civil litigation experience and excellent writing and oral advocacy skills to serve as a civil litigator on our education and student services team, with a focus on special education law. Experience in related fields, including litigation involving students with disabilities, civil and constitutional rights, and/or related issues is preferred. Position Description:
MLM is a management-side law firm representing school districts and municipalities throughout Massachusetts. The successful applicant will be responsible for providing legal counsel, representation, advocacy, and litigation services to our clients, with a particular focus on education, including the following:
  • Representing school clients in student disciplinary hearings, IEP team meetings, and appeals to state and federal administrative agencies and courts
  • Preparing and representing witnesses
  • Conducting and advising clients on internal investigations, including Title IX
  • Drafting and amending school policies and student handbooks
  • Conducting legal research and communicating advice to clients
  • Providing training to elected officials, school administrators, and teachers
  • Performing similar or related work as required

This position requires daily in-person work and travel to our offices located conveniently off the Braintree Split (interchange of I-93, US-1, and Route 3 in Braintree, MA), as well as to schools, towns, and courts throughout Massachusetts as needed. Annual billable hour requirement of 1800 hours. Early morning, evening, and/or weekend work may be required depending on client needs.

Required Skills:
  • Strong advocacy and courtroom experience
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to draft and file legal documents, including discovery requests and responses, pleadings, memoranda, orders, findings of fact and rulings of law, trial documents, witness preparation questions, and mediation memoranda
  • Knowledge of the rules of evidence, civil procedure, and appellate procedure2
  • Ability to understand complex information and provide legal advice in a clear and concise manner
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently
  • Flexibility to work in a fast-paced and exciting work environment
  • Ability to exercise discretion and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive, complex and confidential issues

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Member of the Massachusetts bar in good standing
  • At least three (3) to five (5) years of experience in civil litigation, preferably in the fields of education, municipal, and/or labor/employment law
