O'Connor & Battle, LLP, is a civil litigation defense firm specializing in insurance defense, personal injury defense, auto liability, civil rights and medical malpractice. We have a collegial atmosphere, and are seeking an attorney to be a part of our growing team. Travel to various courts throughout the state is required at times. We enjoy practicing law and, whenever possible, we try cases!

Duties:
  • Manage all phases of litigation from initial client consultation through trial preparation and resolution, inclusive of court calls, motion arguments, depositions, meetings with clients, meetings with expert witnesses and settlement negotations
  • Conduct comprehensive legal research using LexisNexis to support case strategies
  • Draft and review legal documents including motions, pleadings, discovery requests, and settlement agreements
  • Prepare for and attend court hearings, depositions, mediations and arbitrations
  • Organize evidence and develop persuasive arguments
  • Engage in client communication to provide updates, gather information, and offer sound legal advice
  • Negotiate settlements effectively while advocating for clients' best interests

Experience:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school with active bar admission in Illinois
  • The ability to commute to downtown Chicago, as well as throughout the state when necessary (A hybrid work arrangement is available after an orientation period)
  • Prior experience in general litigation with exposure to civil cases such as personal injury and/or auto liability a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct legal research using LexisNexis platform effectively
  • Strong writing skills for drafting clear legal documents and persuasive advocacy materials
  • Excellent client communication skills with the ability to explain complex legal concepts clearly
