Position Summary:
A Personal Injury Law Firm is hiring a Maine civil litigation attorney to join our team. This is a remote work from home position that is responsible for providing effective and thorough representation, for Subrogation cases on the Plaintiff's side. Court appearances are required in the state of Maine. The Associate Attorney will predominately work a docket of large property and auto related losses in active litigation. A minimum of 3 years Subrogation and/or Insurance Defense experience is preferable, but all civil litigation experience will be considered. The ideal candidate should be able to work autonomously with limited supervision and have the ability to work a case from acceptance through trial/settlement. Excellent organizational and time-management skills are necessary in order to meet deadlines. A J.D. from an accredited law school is required, as well as either being active and in good standing in the state of Maine or have the ability to immediately waive in.

Key Outcomes:
  • Responsibility for Subrogation cases from inception through resolution.
  • Interface with insurance adjusters, opposing counsel, witnesses, experts, etc. on assigned cases in a manner that promotes the firm's values and demonstrates respect for others.
  • Partners with peers and staff to acquire the necessary data/research support
  • Provides direction to assigned support personnel (Paralegal) to ensure thorough, timely case preparation, workflow, and performance reviews.
  • Ensures cases are properly prepared for trial by:
    • Effectively managing case and trial calendar to ensure deadlines are met.
    • Conducting legally sound research for liability and recovery potential
    • Producing correspondence, pleadings, discovery, depositions, and affidavits
    • Preparing corporate and expert witnesses for trial
  • Collaborates and/or works well with other parties involved including but not limited to: insurance adjusters, opposing counsel, client representatives, witnesses, and court personnel.

Education/Experience:
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school
  • Admitted to practice law in Maine or ability to immediately waive in
  • 3 years of experience practicing law, with a focus on civil litigation
  • Strong knowledge of legal principles, procedures, and practices related to litigation
  • Excellent research, writing, and oral advocacy skills
  • Proficiency in using legal research tools such as Westlaw and Lexis-Nexis
  • Ability to analyze complex legal issues and develop effective strategies
  • Strong negotiation skills to achieve favorable outcomes for clients
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment
