Overview:
Reporting to GB's Senior Counsel – Contracts, this role seeks a hardworking commercial generalist with strong organizational skills, sharp negotiation abilities, and good business sense. It supports GB's contract function and manages other commercial matters.

How you'll make an impact
  • Actively participate in improving GB's contracting function, involving its customer service center, external contractors, and internal employees.
  • Manage transactional issues in GB operations by reviewing, drafting, negotiating, and interpreting a range of complex agreements, such as client and insurance carrier service agreements, vendor services agreements (including IT and other professional services), consulting services agreements, and more. The focus will be on GB's templates for non-form or non-standard agreements.
  • Offer continuous and forward-thinking strategic guidance concerning contractual and business risks, along with advising on contract interpretation and potential dispute matters.
  • Act as an business and legal collaborator through technical expertise, strong business acumen, and adept relationship-building across the organization. Successfully communicate with leadership at every tier.
  • Ensure that all agreements accurately reflect GB's business objectives and align with all laws and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrate in-depth understanding of business operations and objectives to assess risk and bring together cross-functional teams to ensure business alignment.
  • Work closely with management, other GB legal representatives, and the Gallagher corporate legal department on pivotal initiatives commercial and legal issues. Collaborate and work in a team environment with other Gallagher legal representatives in analyzing and implementing various projects, including improvements on data metrics and reporting and automation.
  • Identify and offer proactive guidance and support on a variety of other legal issues that may surface, such as IP, bankruptcy, and regulatory matters.

About You:
  • J.D. degree from an accredited law school and license to practice law under the Bar of any state that enables admission to practice as in-house counsel in Illinois.
  • At least 3 years' relevant experience reviewing, drafting, and negotiating a variety of commercial agreements, preferably in both a corporate and law firm setting. Demonstrated ability or a strong desire to learn how to handle both internal and external client calls on complicated issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to be a self-starter with an emphasis on relationship building in a high-volume environment.
  • Experience with global business transactions is desired as is familiarity with substantive issues relating to providing business to business professional services.
  • Proven ability to effectively work within a cross-functional team and drive sophisticated global transactions and initiatives to completion in a fast-paced and entrepreneurial setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence outcomes and manage increasing transactional complexity through strong interpersonal skills, professional presence, and high-quality client counseling.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with an ability to inspire trust and confidence with stakeholders at all levels by virtue of keen business acumen, professional competence, integrity, and personal style.
  • Ability to handle sensitive situations tactfully yet firmly, to be assertive without being adversarial and to take unpopular positions when necessary while maintaining trust and credibility.
  • Advanced critical thinking and analytical ability, and the ability to understand and integrate details of the business to ensure new and existing business relationships are workable across functions.
