The Opportunity:
Your role at A Cosmetics and Beauty Products Retail Company:
  • A Cosmetics and Beauty Products Retail Company's Legal team is seeking a creative, agile, and diligent attorney to join the Privacy Team as Associate Counsel, Data Privacy. As an integral member of the Legal Department, this role will help in implementing and ensuring compliance with A Cosmetics and Beauty Products Retail Company's privacy program and reports to Counsel, Data Privacy. In addition, you will:
  • Work with internal clients and legal colleagues to negotiate data processing agreements, and other privacy-related agreements; contribute to the improvement of standard forms of agreements, alternate language playbooks, and internal resource documents with respect to privacy and data processing matters;
  • Support program updates, expansion, and remediation; assist in managing company compliance with relevant privacy and data protection laws, including implementation of new requirements; help triage and respond to privacy incidents and data subject requests; assist with regulatory and litigation response; help develop and deliver presentations and materials for ongoing privacy awareness;
  • Monitor relevant privacy and data protection laws and enforcement activities to ensure ongoing compliance, track emerging risks and assist with policy creation and other program materials;
  • Assist in the management and completion of data privacy impact assessments, vendor assessments, and other similar assessments intended to support the company's data privacy by design initiatives; support the maintenance of the data inventory, as well as development and intake of new data maps.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of privacy policies and processes; maintain and improve processes and workflows; support maintenance of online privacy policies;
  • Advise the business in assessing and responding to data privacy risks related to relevant functions; advance a positive spirit of solution-oriented partnership and collaboration with internal clients, internal legal colleagues, and outside counsel.
  • Work with tech teams to clarify legal requirements for maintenance of privacy enterprise tool;
  • Help foster a culture of privacy and drive privacy awareness and education.

We're Excited About You if You Have:
  • 3 years' privacy law experience;
  • CIPP/US certification preferred; Working knowledge of U.S. federal, state, and international privacy law, including CCPA, CPRA, GDPR, PIPEDA, online behavioral advertising principles, and breach notification laws;
  • Strong academic credentials and training at a major national law firm; in-house experience a plus;
  • California bar membership;
  • Approachable and patient with internal clients; with passion for providing excellent customer service;
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, effectively prioritize multiple projects simultaneously under time-sensitive deadlines, and adapt quickly to changing priorities;
  • Strong project management skills with an emphasis on being detail oriented and organized;
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with cross-functional teams;
  • Enthusiasm for taking on new and additional responsibilities as business and team needs evolve; and
  • Passion for continuous learning and professional development, with flexibility and willingness to dive into any projects requiring support.
