The Associate Corporate Counsel is an attorney who provides legal advice and guidance regarding general corporate matters, compliance and/or litigation management, transactions, and licensing.The Associate Corporate Counsel will manage or assist in various matters including the timely handling of license applications and renewals, compliance reviews, resolution of contested and complex litigation matters, general legal support for the collections litigation business unit, and defending the company in litigation.In situations where the matter is handled by outside counsel, this role manages the external relationship.This role also provides legal advice in connection with the company's business operations and supports corporate compliance with analysis and counsel regarding debt collection laws and regulations and related activities.Further, the Associate Corporate Counsel conducts legal research, provides legal expertise to junior attorneys and paralegals in Legal Collections, and may collaborate with other attorneys on creating efficient transnational process as well as litigation and compliance strategy for states and departments.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage, direct, and resolve assigned matters in a timely and cost-effective manner.Work with third parties, business clients, and support staff to gather information relevant to assigned work.Maintain and enhance company reputation with courts, vendors, outside counsel, regulators, issuers, and consumers. Limit company exposure through effective advocacy and/or negotiations on behalf of the company. 65%
  • Create, implement, and manage litigation strategies, systems, and processes.Resolve contested and counter-claim litigation matters cost-effectively through the effective use of said strategies and systems. 15%
  • Work with the legal operations team and business units to support company goals by ensuring timely review and execution of assigned legal work. Provide recommendations on workflow improvements and litigation strategy. 10%
  • Ensure adherence to Consumer Bill of Rights by enforcing relevant company policies.When engaging in litigation, determine appropriate settlements with consumers experiencing temporary or permanent hardships, and communicate with consumers and counsel to encourage financial recovery and appropriate resolution of accounts. 5%
  • Provide legal advice to company to effectively protect the business interests and support compliance with Federal, State, and local laws. 5%

Education:
Required: Master or Advanced. JD degree from an accredited law school

Language:
Required: English

Experience:
Required: At least 4 years working experience. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Excellent detail orientation, accuracy and follow-through abilities; sound judgment and use of discretion; excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills; excellent strategic and problem-solving abilities; strong business acumen and critical thinker and self-motivated and analytical.

Preferred: Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.Additional experience with Serengeti and Salesforce is beneficial.
