The Bays Firm is currently looking for a 1-5 year attorney to join its team.
The Associate Attorney will work in office in a full-time capacity, supporting the firm's litigation matters. Day-to-day responsibilities include preparation of pleadings, motions, discovery and trial briefs; performing legal research; and preparing memoranda and case analysis for supervising attorneys. The role involves meeting with clients, providing preliminary legal guidance under supervision, and participating in negotiations, hearings and participation in trials of a case to a judge, jury and/or arbitor, mediations and depositions as appropriate. While much of the work is done independently, the ideal attorney will also value the collaboration and mentorship offered at this firm. Candidate should expect to manage a 45-55 case docket. The ideal candidate will be well versed in the Rules of Civil Procedure and the Rules of Evidence, and desire to gain courtroom and comprehensive litigation experience.
Duties:
- Ability to work independently and efficiently;
- Proficient Research skills, including use of legal research tools, citation formats, and preparation of clear, concise legal memoranda;
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active license to practice law in Texas, or eligibility for admission in Texas;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail and ability to present complex issues clearly;
- Demonstrated professionalism, ethical judgment, and ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment;
- Prior experience as a law clerk, intern, or associate in a litigation or employment law setting is beneficial.
Skills:
- Proven experience or strong familiarity with estate planning, environmental law, immigration law, family law, securities law, workers' compensation law, tribal law & regulations, litigation (including general & commercial litigation), patent law, personal injury law (including personal injury case experience), employment law case experience.
- Skilled in negotiation tactics and effective legal writing with excellent drafting abilities for contracts and motions.
- Proficient in legal research platforms such as LexisNexis and Westlaw; capable of conducting comprehensive statutory legal research.
- Strong procedural knowledge of court processes across multiple jurisdictions; adept at legal motion preparation and case management.
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple cases efficiently while maintaining attention to detail; experience with legal administrative tasks is preferred.
- Strong foundation in Law, with the ability to interpret statutes, regulations, and case law and apply them to client matters;
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate complex legal concepts clearly both verbally and in writing.
- Familiarity with the use of legal software tools for case tracking and document management; prior Law office experience is advantageous.
