About Your Role:
The Assistant General Counsel, Employment (AGC/Employment) has responsibility for managing the defense of employment litigation, arbitration, and EEO claims. The AGC/Employment provides advice, training, and counsel to internal business partners, including Human Resources, Asset Protection, Supply Chain and Store Operations, on a variety of compliance issues. Regular travel throughout the continental U.S. is required.

Responsibilities:
Manage employment litigation and arbitration. Select and actively monitor outside counsel to ensure effective case handling, with an emphasis on efficiency and cost consciousness. Attend key depositions, hearings, and trials.

Conduct and/or manage employment arbitrations and represent Dollar Tree in a variety of legal settings. Oversee (and as necessary prepare) responses to federal and state EEO, DOL and other agency charges and complaints.

Provide advice and counsel to business partners, particularly in Human Resources, Asset Protection, Store Operations, and Supply Chain. Work with business partners to develop compliant employment-related policies, processes, and procedures. Identify employment-related risks to the business and ensure compliance with employment-related laws and regulations. Stay abreast of legal trends and communicate proactively to internal partners and clients. Represent the company at trials, hearings, investigations, mediations, and settlement conferences.

Oversee (and as necessary prepare) the response to notices, subpoenas, summons, demand letters, and other correspondence that require legal action in the employment and human resource arena.

Your Required Skills and Experience:
  • JD from accredited law school.
  • 10 years' experience in employment law.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and analytical ability.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work successfully with business partners throughout the Company.
  • Ability to travel regularly throughout continental United States.
  • License to practice law.
  • Experience drafting handbooks and corporate policies.

Preferred Requirements:
  • Experience working with large retail companies, labor law, and/or CA employment law a plus
