About the role:Peraton is seeking an experienced and well‑rounded Senior Counsel to support the company's business operations at our Reston, VA headquarters. Reporting directly to Peraton's Chief Legal Officer, this role partners closely with corporate leadership and business sector teams to provide strategic legal guidance across the broad range of subject matters that arise in the daily operations of a government contractor. Areas of focus include government and commercial contracting, regulatory compliance, labor and employment, intellectual property, internal investigations, and litigation.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary legal counsel for assigned Peraton business sectors.
- Provide front-line legal advice and support on a wide range of activities, including:
- Contracting: proposals, prime and subcontract agreements, and other specialized agreements
- Employment: screening, counseling, internal investigations, and adverse action matters
- Intellectual Property: commercial licensing, agreements, and technical data rights
- Compliance: corporate governance, training, internal investigations, and external regulatory reporting
- Litigation: contract disputes, bid protests, and employment or other civil litigation
- Collaborate with Legal Department colleagues and outside counsel to ensure comprehensive, high‑quality legal support to the business.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
- Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar.
- If not admitted in Virginia, must be eligible for admission as Virginia Corporate Counsel.
- Minimum of 16 years of relevant professional experience, including at least 10 years post‑J.D.
- Possession of or eligibility to obtain a TS/SCI clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
- Significant in‑house, private practice, or government legal experience in the federal contracting industry.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to partner effectively at all levels of the organization.
- Demonstrated success supporting or leading cross‑functional teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
- Strong critical‑thinking skills along with the ability to develop creative and practical solutions.
- Ability to work independently, proactively, and collaboratively.
- Willingness to learn and expand expertise into new legal disciplines.
