Fidelity National Title Insurance Company is seeking a title insurance professional to fill an Underwriting Counsel role for our Central States Agency Operations. From day one, you will have frequent interaction with our agents, clients and professional partners including managers, owners, attorneys and mortgage professionals.

You will play a key role in a broad range of critical underwriting functions and decisions, providing expert underwriting guidance to agents in connection with the issuance of title insurance commitments and policies. This role applies sound underwriting standards and guidelines while operating within established delegated authority limits.

Location:
  • This role may be based remotely in Missouri, Kansas, or Nebraska.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% as required.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain strong, collaborative business relationships with agents.
  • Engage with agents regularly through in-person visits, phone calls, and virtual platforms such as Teams and Zoom.
  • Respond to underwriting questions and proactively resolve issues to support agent success.
  • Provide training to agents on a broad range of underwriting topics, regulatory requirements, and industry developments in title insurance.
  • Collaborate with other underwriters, management, and cross-functional partners on initiatives related to product development, processes, underwriting policy, and strategic direction.
  • Plan for and actively participate in underwriting meetings and related forums.
  • Conduct underwriting reviews for transactions, demonstrating a strong command of local real estate statutes and relevant legal precedents.
  • Support customers and their clients in successfully closing transactions with professionalism, responsiveness, and sound legal judgment.
  • Build and sustain a reputation as a trusted legal advisor and a strong advocate for agent success.

Minimum Requirements:
  • JD from an accredited law school and active license to practice law and in good standing in Kansas, Missouri and/or Nebraska.
  • Demonstrated advanced practical experience with concepts, practices and procedures of real estate and or title insurance.
  • Excellent communication, relational and leadership skills, leading by example, and driving employee commitment through actions.
  • High level of business acumen, strategic ability, ability to develop others and influence change.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, prioritize and work under pressure.
  • Ability to resolve complex issues using abstract thinking and creativity.

Preferred Experience:
  • Title insurance underwriting experience.
  • Strong presentation skills with the ability to lead in-person and virtual education sessions.
