Barley Snyder, a regional law firm of over 120 attorneys, has an excellent opportunity for a Tax Attorney in our Business and Trusts & Estates practice groups.The ideal candidate will possess a deep background in federal tax planning, corporate transactions, and Pennsylvania multi-state tax controversy defense. In this role, you will act as a strategic advisor to corporations, pass-through entities, and high-net-worth individuals, while actively defending clients before state administrative tax boards and federal authorities.
Your primary duties will focus on sophisticated tax planning and structuring, where you will advise clients on business formations, mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, and liquidations to maximize tax efficiency. You will also lead controversy and audit defense, representing regional and Pennsylvania entities before the Commonwealth's administrative tax boards and courts in disputes involving corporate net income, capital stock/franchise, sales and use, and realty transfer taxes. Additionally, you will handle comprehensive wealth and succession planning by designing tailored estate plans, revocable and irrevocable trusts, and business succession strategies for family-held and closely held businesses. Finally, you will provide ongoing transactional advisory services, serving as outside counsel to corporate clients and non-profit organizations on daily tax compliance, regulatory updates, and governance.
Candidates must have an active license in the Pennsylvania Bar Association and admission to the U.S. Tax Court, backed by a minimum of 5 to 8 years of dedicated tax planning and tax litigation experience within a law firm setting. While a J.D. is required, an LL.M. in Taxation is highly preferred to align with the advanced technical depth of our practicing team. We require strong analytical capabilities in complex corporate tax structures, multi-state compliance, and a proven track record of successfully handling high-stakes audits and Pennsylvania Department of Revenue appeals.
