What You'll Do:
We are pleased to announce a new opportunity for a transactional attorney to join our in-house legal department in a hybrid role in Carlsbad, California supporting supply chain and procurement activities across several different business areas. Are you a business-minded attorney seeking to grow your in-house career through the opportunity to draft, review, negotiate, analyze and advise on various types of contractual documents for numerous functions and internal customers across an organization? If so, then you might be a fit for our Supply Chain Counsel position supporting the Commercial businesses of Viasat.
As a Supply Chain Counsel, you will focus on providing legal and contractual guidance in transactions with vendors of all kinds, including manufacturing, software licensing, strategic supply, professional services, marketing, and development agreements. In addition to working directly with internal business and function owners on certain efforts, you will act as an advisor, trainer and critical issue point for a team of contract managers supporting supply chain and procurement activities.
This is a hybrid, site-based role that offers the perfect blend of office collaboration and remote flexibility. Employees will work from our office at least 3 days (60%) per week within a standard five-day workweek, with the remaining days worked remotely.
The Day-To-Day:
- Provide strategic business and legal advice related to supply chain transactions both at contract inception and during contract performance.
- Develop, examine, negotiate, and analyze a wide variety of contracts.
- Advise on mitigation strategies related to sourcing challenges and changes.
- Create and implement strategies for early resolution of contractual disputes with vendors.
- Mentor, advise and train commercial contracts staff.
- Collaborate closely and connect with other departments and functional areas to ensure business objectives are met.
- Assist in other transactional and legal matters as necessary and requested by manager.
What You'll Need:
- 3-5 years of prior transactional legal experience, preferably with some in-house practice for a technology company.
- Juris Doctorate degree with excellent academic credentials.
- Strong experience drafting, negotiating and handling contracts.
- Ability to navigate a global, complex, decentralized organization with partners across different time zones and in remote work settings.
- Exceptional interpersonal communication skills, both oral and written, including ability to ask clear, concise questions involving complex technology to get requisite answers from business partners and Legal Department colleagues.
- Prior experience with intellectual property a plus.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.

Salary Range:
$139,000.00 - $219,000.00 / annually. For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $172,500.00- $258,500.00/ annually
