Job Description:
Role Purpose:
This Counsel position resides within the IP Analysis & Insights team, which is responsible for advising NBCUniversal divisions worldwide regarding rights and other intellectual property issues that arise across all phases of its business.

Responsibilities:
  • Assuming a pivotal role in identifying, validating, and enhancing intellectual property opportunities as well as contributing to strategies across NBCUniversal's worldwide footprint
  • Reviewing and interpreting development, production, and distribution agreements to provide advice on issues such as property acquisition (including chain of title and scope of the grant), distribution rights (including via new media / streaming), remake / sequel rights, live event rights, merchandising / interactive rights, and theme park rights
  • Analyzing copyright and related issues associated with the exercise of rights in cutting-edge, technologically sophisticated new use cases
  • Advising NBCUniversal business and legal divisions, both verbally and in writing, regarding deal terms and contractual language in draft agreements related to intellectual property rights
  • Providing timely production clearance/risk advice in connection with active projects
  • Efficiently navigating multiple electronic databases and reviewing corporate files and other sources for relevant rights information about current and library properties
  • Supporting transformational enterprise initiative that seeks to evolve the way rights are acquired, analyzed, managed, and shared across NBCUniversal

Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
  • Member of California bar or other US state bar
  • JD or LLM degree from an accredited law school
  • 4+ years of experience in the intellectual property field, either at a law firm or comparable corporate setting

Desired Characteristics:
  • Outstanding academic credentials
  • Experience analyzing intellectual property rights in entertainment content with special attention to detail and/or familiarity with the entertainment business and knowledge of entertainment contracts
  • Highly motivated self-starter who takes initiative, with strong track record of successful project management and execution as well as the ability to handle multiple, high priority tasks in a fast-paced, diverse corporate environment
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills, including the ability to develop strong relationships with multiple business units and their representatives and communicate clearly, concisely, and professionally in both written and oral contexts
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to handle a large workload and meet deadlines under pressure multitask, handle changing priorities, juggle many projects, and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Sound, practical business judgment; adaptability to manage multiple wide-ranging matters and changing priorities, conflicting deadlines, and new areas of expertise as business needs change
  • Excellent technological literacy with the ability to quickly master new applications and work with unique, proprietary electronic databases

Hybrid
: This position currently has a hybrid schedule, which requires contributing from the Universal City, CA office a minimum of four days per week. The Company reserves the right to change in-office requirements at any time.

Salary range: $140,000 - $170,000 (bonus and long-term incentive eligible).
