Position Overview:
Reporting to the Managing Attorney, the Supervising Attorney will assist in management and coordination for the Violence Against Women project including supervision of legal work and mentoring of staff; coordination of pro bono support. This role is based primarily in our San Francisco office, with additional responsibilities linked to our East Bay office. The role requires a strong commitment to social justice, with frequent interactions with a wide range of stakeholders. The ideal candidate will be dedicated to serving underserved Asian and Pacific Islander communities and BIPOC communities in the Greater Bay Area.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide management and coordination for the violence against women project, assisting survivors of gender based violence including domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and dating violence; supervision and mentoring of staff; coordination of pro bono support.
  • Provide full scope legal representation to survivors of gender based violence. This work will include representation of clients in restraining order hearings, child custody and support matters, contested dissolutions, immigration petitions, public benefits matters, as well as assisting in other practice areas as needed.
  • Report to funders regarding the work of the organization.
  • Coordinate community education and outreach for projects and staff clinics at sites accessible to consumers.
  • Represent the organization at community, legal, and other meetings and functions, including meetings of funders and donors.
  • Provide technical assistance and training to community agencies and partners.
  • Assist with administrative and fundraising work of the organization as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice and to serving underserved API and other communities of color.
  • Commitment to the mission, projects and organizational operations of API Legal Outreach.
  • Strong relevant courtroom, case management, and teaching skills in the priority project areas.
  • At least three years of successful experience in supervising others engaged in social justice work.
  • Superior performance evaluations from relevant, applicable positions.
  • Member in good standing of the California Bar.
  • Bilingual and bicultural skills relevant to low-income communities.
  • Ability to work well in a team-oriented, multi-cultural environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Minimum five years of litigation and/or administrative hearing experience, supervisorial experience
  • Contract management, and non-profit services experience
  • Experience with Legal Server and Google Workspace
  • California driver's license and own vehicle
