Are you interested in being where it all begins at the State Attorney's office? Come join the Booking Release Division handling weekend Initial Appearance Hearings. The responsibilities for a part-time position include handling weekend Initial Appearances for Juvenile, Orange, and Osceola. The responsibilities for a full-time position will also include assisting misdemeanor and felony attorneys with case work ups, depositions, motion practice, and other tasks three days a week. You will have the opportunity to learn the elements of all cases our office handles. You will gain experience with victims and witnesses of a variety of cases including but not limited to: Homicide, Domestic Violence, and Thefts. You will appear in front of numerous judges, have contact with all of the law enforcement agencies in our circuit, and work with Assistant State Attorneys in all units. This is a great position to gain valuable experience at the beginning of the process.

?We are seeking candidates who will be responsible for the prosecution of all crimes committed in Orange and Osceola Counties. These candidates should seek to be administrators of justice; should act with integrity and balanced judgment to increase public safety; should be available to assist community efforts addressing problems that lead to, or result from, criminal activity or perceived flaws in the criminal justice system; and should act not merely as a case-processor but also a problem-solver responsible for considering broad goals of the criminal legal system.

Essential Functions:
The following duties are normal but are not limited to this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
  • Handling Initial Appearances on Saturday and Sunday at the Juvenile Justice Center and the Booking Release Center.
  • Conduct preliminary and pretrial hearings, and related courtroom proceedings.
  • Conducts case research and documentation.
  • Communicates and serves as a liaison with victims, family, witnesses, and community partners.
  • Interact with victims, police, and witnesses to make critical decisions.
  • Attend all court hearings.
  • Prepare legal documents and reports for court proceedings.
  • Manage communication with stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor Degree required
  • Member of The Florida Bar
  • Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
